Today, I recorded my voice-over on top of a track I'd already made for the Council's Careers & Apprenticeship radio ad.
I did many takes and then combined the best parts into one. I used my Shure SM7B.

The Mix:
Vocal Inserts in Order:
Taking out unnecessary low-end and low-mids:

Boosting highs and adding a small amount of saturation:

De-essing since I previously boosted highs and thus boosted unwanted sibilance:

Compressing to even out dynamic range and make fuller and richer:

Automating (shown in orange line on 'Vox Bus' below EQ) a narrow-band bell to remove a quiet yet horrific screech on an 'F':


Vocal Sends:
Subtle delay to sit the vocal in the mix with the music better and to make more cohesive:

Very subtle reverb to again sit the vocal in the mix and make sound more natural:

Vocal Volume Automation:
Equalising drastic volume difference that I didn't want the compressor dealing with:

Music Track Insert:
EQ carving out frequencies where the vocal sits allowing it to be more present in the mix:
